Bigs and Littles enjoy a day of painting

This July, Bigs and Littles from Big Brothers Big Sisters of Long Island (BBBSLI) and Splashes of Hope joined together in painting murals for the Northport VA and Schneider's Children's Hospital.

Gathering at the BBBSLI Donation Center in Islandia, 16 Bigs and Littles received a lesson from Splashes of Hope "master mural artist" Frank Bandiero. They then tried their hand at painting the 3'x8' Long Island scene for Schneider's Children's Hospital.

With the assistance of Splashes of Hope Assistant Art Director Stephanie Condra and volunteers Brian Fiedler, Dave Gussaroff, Liz Macchio and Sandy Romano, the Bigs and Littles also painted themselves on a mural designated to be hung at the Levittown office of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Long Island.

"It's a privilege for Splashes of Hope to participate in a fun event in which we are able to bring our own love of art into the lives of the great kids from Big Brothers Big Sisters, " commented Splahes of Hope founder Heather Buggee. "The best part is that at the same time we all are making positive impacts in the lives of others at the hospitals and healthcare facilities in which the murals will be installed. The Big and Little Brothers and Sisters approached their painting with such openness and love--and that is certainly going to be felt by all those who view the murals for years to come."
