The Process
Step 1
Our professional artists visit the site-to-be-“Splashed” to measure and assess the designated areas. We meet with facility staff, patients, medical professionals, and therapists to discuss how to best serve the unique needs of each facility’s patients. Requirements for theme, style, color scheme, and special elements to include for patient's therapeutic distraction are determined.

Step 2
Staff artists create and present layout designs to hospital staff. The layouts are custom designed to fit each facility’s specifications and its patients’ needs. The layout design is often framed and presented to the sponsor upon completion of the mural project.
Step 3
Upon approval of the layouts, “Splashing” begins: our staff artists and volunteers paint the murals on hospital walls or on panels in our art studio, which are later installed in the hospital. All murals are painted with non-toxic, non-flammable Benjamin Moore brand latex paints. The timeline for “Splashing” is scheduled with sensitivity to the needs of patients and the facility’s regular programming.
Step 4
Protective varnish is applied, increasing mural durability and enabling the murals to be washed.
Step 5
If murals were created on panels in our studio, our team will expertly deliver and install the panels to the hospital or facility. The final product looks as though it is painted directly on the wall—seems and edges are camouflaged with organic shapes and the screws adhering the panel to the wall are touched over.

Step 6 Upon completion of the project, Splashes of Hope coordinates a ribbon cutting ceremony with hospital staff, sponsors, artists and news media for a photo opportunity to celebrate the new "Splashed" environment.
