Written By: The Family Members of The Engel Family About a century ago, Michael and Ursula were born in New York City. Destined to meet in downtown Manhattan, they soon married, started a family, and ultimately built a life on Long Island in the town of Huntington. Their life together, their love, their art, and their volunteerism were celebrated Saturday, March 4, 2017 as the family created a Legacy Mural that will bring hope and splashes of color to the new Emergency Department Pediatric Isolation Room at Northwell Health Huntington Hospital. Huntington Hospital is a fitting place for this mural as Ursula was a volunteer at the hospital for nearly 45 years – her volunteer posts included the Emergency Room, Television, Talking Books, and the Surgical Waiting Room. Michael was an avid boater and sailed past the colorful mural scene more times than he could count, though it is doubtful that he would have passed moose in kayaks, rabbits in speedboats, and turtles and giraffes in sailboats, to say nothing of hippos on a Huntington Harbor beach! But, as an artist himself, Michael surely would have appreciated the artistic license as much as the children will enjoy the splashes of color in such a fanciful and yet familiar Huntington scene that is the Michael & Ursula Legacy Mural. The Engel family is delighted to have helped bring this Legacy Mural to Northwell Health Huntington Hospital. Our fondest hope is that it will transform every child’s visit there, taking it from clinical to colorful. We had so much fun creating this legacy mural, and we're sure your family will too!
